University Students to Study in Taiwan on Prestigious Government Scholarship: Vice Chancellor Extends Congratulations

Bareilly: Four students of the Humanities Department at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University — Sonal, Agamya Verma, Goodluck, and Harshit Thakur — have been awarded the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship by the Government of Taiwan. The scholarship will enable them to pursue a one-year program in Mandarin language studies in Taiwan.

All four students successfully cleared the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language), making them eligible for this international academic opportunity. Expressing delight at their achievement, Vice Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh congratulated the students and the department, blessing them to continue excelling in their academic pursuits.

On the occasion, Dr. Anita Tyagi, Head and Coordinator of the Department, thanked the Vice Chancellor for his constant support and guidance. She also highlighted that in the past years, several students of the Centre for Excellence in Multilingual Studies had availed the scholarship — six students in 2022–23 (for six months and one student for 12 months) and seven students in 2023–24 (for three to 12 months). These students not only mastered Mandarin but also gained exposure to Taiwanese culture.

The Centre for Excellence for Multilingual Studies, under the Humanities Department, currently offers certificate, diploma, and postgraduate degree programs in multiple languages. Courses include one-year diplomas in German, French, Mandarin, and Spanish, along with certificate programs in Communicative English and English for Business. Additionally, the department offers postgraduate degrees in Functional Hindi and Pali. While diploma and certificate programs are open to students who have passed Class XII, postgraduate courses require a graduate degree.

Dr. Tyagi emphasized that knowledge of Mandarin opens up significant career opportunities in India and abroad, as the demand for Mandarin speakers continues to rise globally. She also pointed out that under the National Education Policy (NEP), students now have the option to pursue two courses simultaneously, enabling them to complete a degree while also mastering a foreign language.

Admissions for these programs are currently open, with courses offered at nominal fees. Interested students may contact the Humanities Department for more details.
