New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, held a formal consultation with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) delegation led by its National President, Kumari Mayawati, at Nirvachan Sadan (Election House), New Delhi.
The meeting is part of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) ongoing initiative to promote greater and more regular engagement with key stakeholders—particularly political parties—toward strengthening India’s democratic processes. The commission has launched a structured dialogue with national and state political parties to encourage open communication, address concerns, and invite constructive suggestions directly from party leadership.
This high-level interaction is intended to fill a long-felt need for direct, substantive discussions between the Commission and political leadership. It forms part of the ECI’s broader vision to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the electoral system under the framework of the existing legal structure.
According to official data, the ECI has already conducted 4,719 multi-party meetings as part of its ongoing outreach efforts. These include 40 meetings with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), 800 meetings with District Election Officers (DEOs), and 3,879 meetings with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). Over 28,000 representatives from various political parties have participated in these interactions so far.
Today’s meeting with the BSP leadership marks another step toward building trust and cooperation between the Election Commission and political stakeholders, as India continues to strengthen the world’s largest democracy through inclusive dialogue and reform-oriented engagement.
