Uttar Pradesh Government Determined to Make State Self-Reliant in Fish Production

State Government Committed to the Holistic Development of the Fisher Community – Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad

Lucknow – Uttar Pradesh’s Cabinet Minister for Fisheries Development, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad reviewed the progress of the Fisheries Department and issued necessary guidelines to officials at the Directorate Auditorium in Lucknow. He stated that making Uttar Pradesh self-reliant in the field of fish production and ensuring the comprehensive development of the fisher community are among the top priorities of the state government. He reviewed various projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Mukhyamantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Nishadraj Boat Scheme, Uttar Pradesh Matsya Palak Kalyan Kosh (Fishermen Welfare Fund), and the formation of cooperative societies.

Dr. Nishad emphasized the need to maximize the benefits of the Uttar Pradesh Matsya Palak Kalyan Kosh for fish farmers and to increase the number of ponds. He also stressed the importance of increasing the number of fish mobile sales centers and fish shops. He directed officials to effectively implement departmental schemes to contribute to the state’s goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy.

Fisheries Development Minister Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad mentioned that landless fishermen in the fisheries sector have also benefited through Kisan Credit Cards (KCC). He instructed officials to expedite the process of providing loans to all landless fishermen in the fisheries sector through KCC. Dr. Nishad urged that the benefits of new schemes operating in Uttar Pradesh, such as the Matsya Palak Kalyan Kosh, Nishadraj Boat Scheme, and Mukhyamantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, should reach the maximum number of farmers.

The Fisheries Development Minister directed that all ongoing schemes aimed at making the state self-reliant in fish production should be implemented on a war footing so that every individual in the fisher community can fully benefit from them. He also emphasized prioritizing welfare schemes to cover unsuitable water areas such as wetlands, brackish water areas, reservoirs, and rivers under the fisheries development program, and to bring economic improvement to the lives of fishermen and fish farmers in the state. He instructed officials to ensure the participation of women in the schemes operated by the Fisheries Department.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Fisheries Shri Rajesh Prakash, Director M.S. Rahmani, Chief General Manager of Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Development Corporation Limited, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Matsya Jeevi Sahakari Sangh Limited, all Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of Fisheries of the state, Chief Executive Officers of Fish Farmers Development Agencies, and officers from all districts, along with other senior departmental officials.
