Kasganj : Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. Speaking during his visit to Kasganj, Rai said that the rising crime rate has created a state of ‘jungle raj’ in Uttar Pradesh.
Rai met the family of a minor gang-rape survivor, expressing solidarity and demanding justice. The incident, which has shocked the region, involved multiple accused and also saw the survivor’s fiancé being assaulted, threatened, and robbed during the attack.
Highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation, Rai cited another recent gang-rape case in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, where a girl was allegedly raped by 23 individuals over the span of a week.
“The Prime Minister himself had to intervene and direct police officials to take action. This reflects the pathetic state of governance in Uttar Pradesh,” Rai said.
So far, Kasganj police have arrested eight accused, all of whom have been presented in court and sent to jail. Authorities claim further investigations are underway.
Later in the day, Rai also participated in a protest organized by Congress workers in Kasganj, opposing the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald case. The protest was part of a broader statewide agitation launched by the Congress party.
“The BJP is targeting Congress leaders because we are exposing their wrongdoings. This chargesheet is nothing but political vendetta,” Rai alleged.
The twin issues of rising crime and alleged misuse of investigative agencies have further fuelled the political temperature in the state, with the Congress seeking to sharpen its attack on the ruling dispensation ahead of crucial electoral contests.
