‘Ground Zero’ Becomes First Film in 38 Years to Hold Red Carpet Premiere in Srinagar

Mumbai: Actor Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Ground Zero is set to make cinematic history by hosting a red carpet premiere in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir — the first such event in the city in nearly four decades.

Set for its grand debut on April 18, the premiere pays tribute to the armed forces, with the initial screening specially organized for soldiers and officers stationed at the Line of Control. This gesture aligns with the film’s central theme, which honors courage and patriotism.

Shot entirely in the picturesque locales of Kashmir, Ground Zero is rooted in real-life events. Hashmi plays BSF Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who led a critical counter-terrorism operation recognized as one of the most significant in BSF’s recent history.

The storyline focuses on the high-stakes mission to neutralize Ghazi Baba, a senior figure associated with militant activities. Ghazi Baba was reportedly involved in planning the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and held a leadership position within Jaish-e-Mohammed, an organization designated as a terrorist group by India, the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union.

Directed by Tejas Deoskar, the film brings together an ensemble cast including Sai Tamhankar, Zoya Hussain, Lalit Prabhakar, Mukesh Tiwari, and others. It is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, with support from multiple co-producers including Abhishek Kumar and Arhan Bagati.

Ground Zero hits theatres nationwide on April 25, 2025, and is already generating buzz thanks to its powerful trailer and emotional resonance. The Srinagar premiere marks not just a cinematic milestone, but a cultural moment for Kashmir and Indian cinema alike.
