New Delhi: Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have appointed Paras Mhambrey as their bowling coach. The franchise gave this information recently. Mumbai Indians said that Mhambrey will work with current bowling coach Lasith Malinga as part of the coaching team led by team head coach Mahela Jayawardene. Mhambrey was India’s bowling coach from November 2021 till the 2024 T20 World Cup win in June.

This will be Mhambrey’s second innings for Mumbai Indians, before that he was part of the support staff during IPL 2013, Champions League T20 (2011, 2013), runner up (2010) and reaching the playoffs twice in the IPL.
Mhambrey played two Tests and three ODIs for India from 1996 to 1998. But he had a stellar domestic cricket career with Mumbai, where he became a five-time Ranji Trophy-winning member.

He also holds a Level 3 Coaching Diploma from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has served as the coach of Maharashtra, Baroda, Vidarbha (2016-17) and Bengal in domestic cricket before breaking into the national team. First as the coach of India A and the Under-19 team, he then became a trusted member of the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff.

Mhambrey also coached India’s Under-19 team to a runner-up finish at the 2020 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. He also won accolades for his time with the senior Indian team, where through deep analysis, man-management skills and solid tactical planning, India emerged as a dangerous bowling line-up. Mhambrey also received special praise from senior pacer Mohammed Shami for his hard work and motivation during the ODI World Cup 2023 on home soil.
