Chennai: This time in the auction of Indian Premier League IPL, the team of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can include Mumbai’s 17-year-old opener Ayush Mhatre. It is believed that this is the reason why Ayush has been called for selection trials. It is being said that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also impressed with Ayush.
The fifth round of Ranji Trophy is ending on November 16, so CSK has eight days for the trial. The management of CSK is also impressed with Ayush. Mhatre has been called by CSK for trials after the end of the fifth round of Ranji Trophy 2024 season and before the start of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There is a gap of six days between the two. This will give CSK enough time to assess before the mega auction to be held on November 24 and 25.
Ayush made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Irani Cup game against Rest of India. Opening the batting with Prithvi Shaw, the youngster scored 19 and 14 runs respectively in the two innings. His stats for Mumbai so far are good.
He has scored 321 runs in five matches at an average of 35.66, including a century and a half-century. He scored 176 runs against Maharashtra.
According to a report, CSK Managing Director and CEO Kashi Vishwanathan had requested the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to allow Ayush to participate in the trials at their Navalur ground. CSK will enter the mega auction with a purse of Rs 55 crore.
