Johannesburg: The fierce cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan has once again demonstrated its enormous global appeal, with nearly 84 lakh ticket applications reportedly received for their league-stage encounter at the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
According to figures released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the October 10, 2027 match has attracted 8,397,294 ticket applications. The contest will be played at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium, which has an approximate seating capacity of 34,000.
The demand is nearly 246 times the venue’s capacity, making the fixture one of the most sought-after matches of the tournament even before the competition begins.
India-Pakistan Clash Outdraws World Cup Final
The extraordinary response has also exceeded the demand for the tournament final. The November 21, 2027 final, scheduled at the same Wanderers Stadium, has reportedly received 7,900,944 ticket applications.
The figures underline the unique commercial and sporting appeal of an India-Pakistan encounter. Despite being a group-stage fixture, the match has generated greater ticket interest than the tournament’s final.
The rivalry continues to attract cricket followers across continents, with supporters eager to witness the two teams compete on one of international cricket’s biggest stages.
India to Face Australia Before Pakistan
India’s campaign will feature another high-profile encounter before the Pakistan match. The team is scheduled to take on Australia on October 7, 2027, bringing together the finalists of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
India and Pakistan have been placed in a group alongside Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one qualifying team.
The other group comprises England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and another qualifier.

Under the reported tournament format, the top three teams from each group, along with the fourth-placed teams from both groups, will advance to the Super 7 stage. The four leading sides from this phase will secure places in the semi-finals.
India Holds Advantage in World Cup Rivalry
India’s record against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup has been particularly impressive, with the Indian team maintaining an unbeaten record in the tournament’s history.
India have also enjoyed considerable success against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, where Pakistan have registered only one victory in their meetings.
Pakistan’s most recent victory over India came during the 2022 Asia Cup. Subsequent encounters have largely favoured India, further strengthening its recent record in the rivalry.
However, past results have done little to diminish the excitement surrounding their meetings.
Wanderers Braces for Extraordinary Demand
The 2027 World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, bringing international cricket back to the African continent on a major scale.
Although the Wanderers Stadium can accommodate only a fraction of the fans who have applied for tickets, the overwhelming response highlights the global following of the India-Pakistan rivalry.
With the tournament still months away, the October 10 encounter has already emerged as one of its biggest attractions, reinforcing the unmatched sporting and commercial significance of cricket’s most closely followed rivalry.
