UN Chief condemns Israeli attack in Rafah

UN Chief

Geneva: The United Nations has strongly condemned the Israeli attack in Rafah. UN chief Antonio Guterres said that many innocent civilians were killed in this attack who were seeking refuge to escape this deadly conflict. He said that ‘terrorism must be stopped’. He also admitted that there is no safe place in Gaza.

In a post on social media X, Guterres said, ‘I condemn Israel’s action, which killed a large number of innocent civilians, who were seeking refuge to escape this deadly conflict. There is no safe place in Gaza. This horror must stop.’

45 killed, 200 injured, UN expressed concern

According to the government media office in Gaza, CNN reported that at least 45 people were killed and 200 others injured in an Israeli attack on a camp for displaced people. Soon after the attack, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that two senior Hamas officials were killed in an attack targeting a Hamas compound.

‘There is literally no safe place’

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk expressed his concern over more civilian deaths in Gaza. He said that Israel’s attacks on Sunday show that there is literally no safe place there.

In a news release, he said, ‘The pictures coming from the camp are horrific and there is no apparent change in the methods of warfare used by Israel. Many civilians have already been killed. Sunday’s attack proves once again that there is literally no safe place in Gaza.’

‘A very big mistake has been made’

In his address to the Israeli Parliament Knesset on Monday, Netanyahu said, ‘Despite our best efforts not to harm the innocent people involved in this incident, unfortunately a tragic mistake happened last night. We are investigating the matter.’

CNN quoted the government media office in Gaza as saying that the Israeli attack hit a camp for displaced people, killing at least 45 people and injuring 200 others. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that two senior Hamas officials were killed in a strike targeting a Hamas compound.
