PM Modi Inaugurates ₹150-Crore Arvind Mills Plant in Varanasi, to Manufacture Jockey and US Polo Apparel

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi  inaugurated a new manufacturing plant of Arvind Limited in Khochawan, Mirzamurad, in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. Built across approximately seven acres at an investment of ₹150 crore, the facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents and people across the Purvanchal region.

The plant will manufacture sportswear, innerwear and other apparel for established brands, including Jockey, US Polo Assn. and Arrow. The facility marks a significant expansion of Arvind Limited’s manufacturing presence in eastern Uttar Pradesh and is expected to strengthen the region’s textile and garment industry.

More than 300 women have already been recruited and are undergoing training at the facility. The company plans to employ a total of 1,000 women, with priority given to local candidates. A second phase of development is also planned, which is expected to create additional employment opportunities.

Following the inauguration, Modi interacted with women undergoing training and enquired about their work, experiences and challenges. He also inspected an exhibition of garments manufactured by the company and sought information from officials about the fabrics, materials and production processes, including khadi textiles.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present at the event, along with company officials and other guests. The Governor and Chief Minister welcomed the Prime Minister upon his arrival at the plant.

Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Arvind Limited operates across the textile and apparel value chain, from yarn and fabrics to finished garments and technical textiles. Its portfolio includes denim, cotton and linen fabrics, shirting and suiting materials, and apparel for domestic and international brands.

The new facility is expected to expand manufacturing capacity in Purvanchal while creating livelihood opportunities, particularly for women. The planned second phase could further strengthen the region’s role in Uttar Pradesh’s growing garment manufacturing ecosystem.
