Bareilly: Students of the Literary Club of the Cultural Centre of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU) brought laurels to the university by delivering impressive performances in various creative and participatory competitions organised to mark the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies.
The annual observance, held on September 7 under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, featured competitions organised by the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) team of the Bareilly Municipal Corporation. This year’s theme focused on “Responsible Actions for Climate and Clean Air and Adopting Mission LiFE for a Sustainable Future.”
Various competitions, including dance, digital campaigning and debate, were organised as part of the programme, with students of the University Cultural Centre participating enthusiastically.
In the debate competition, three students from the Cultural Centre represented the university. Lavi Singh secured the first position, while Abhay Singh bagged the third position. The debate topic was “Clean Air Begins with Us: Learning from Global Best Practices for Behavioural Change in India.”
Lavi Singh delivered an impactful and fact-based presentation in Hindi to secure the top position, while Abhay Singh also impressed the judges with his arguments and secured third place. Both students effectively highlighted the importance of clean air, environmental protection, individual responsibility and behavioural change. University student Drishti also gave an impressive performance in the competition.
In the dance competition, student Shraddha Sharma drew appreciation with her graceful and impactful performance.
Congratulating the winning students, MJPRU Vice-Chancellor Acharya (Dr) Anil Kumar Rai said environmental protection cannot be confined to government initiatives and is the responsibility of every citizen. He emphasised that creating awareness among students about environmental and social concerns through creative expression is an important need of the present time.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University Cultural Centre is playing an important role by providing students with platforms to showcase their talents while also sensitising them towards contemporary social and environmental issues. He added that positive behavioural changes are essential for creating cleaner air and a sustainable future, and young people can become the most effective carriers of this change.
Dr Jyoti Pandey, Cultural Coordinator of the University Cultural Centre, said registration for the competitions organised by the Bareilly Municipal Corporation’s NCAP team had begun on August 24, 2026. Students of the Cultural Centre were registered in accordance with the prescribed rules.
She said the students demonstrated outstanding talent, creativity and understanding of the subject, resulting in the university securing first and third positions in the debate competition. The Cultural Centre, she added, continuously provides students with opportunities to showcase their abilities on diverse social, cultural and contemporary issues.
Dr Pandey further said such competitions play a significant role in developing students’ communication skills, logical thinking, creativity and self-confidence, while strengthening their sense of social and environmental responsibility.
Registrar Mahendra Singh, Cultural Coordinator Dr Jyoti Pandey, Finance Officer Vinod Kumar, Controller of Examinations Anil Kumar Yadav, along with deans, heads of departments, university officials, employees and students of the Cultural Centre’s Cultural Club, congratulated Lavi Singh and Abhay Singh on their achievement and wished them a bright future.
