Eminent personalities grace penultimate day of Gomti book festival

Lucknow: On Saturday, the festival witnessed the presence of renowned personalities from the world of art and literature, including Padma Shri Muzaffar Ali, Padma Shri Malini Awasthi, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi award-winning actor Dr. Anil Rastogi, who participated in various sessions at LekhakGanj.

One of the highlights was the session titled “Lok Sangeet aur Sahitya” (Folk Music and Literature) featuring the country’s acclaimed folk singer, Padma Shri Malini Awasthi. Speaking about the deep connection between literature and life, she emphasized that literature is an integral part of everyone’s existence—it is present in songs, expressions, and conversations. She remarked, “What we speak and express is literature.” During her session, Malini Awasthi reflected on the reading habits of Muzaffar Ali, the keynote speaker of the next session, and underlined the importance of reading as a way to connect with folk literature and traditions. She delighted the audience by singing her popular folk song, “Chandni Chhipi Chhipi Jaihoon Atariya Mein.” The session was moderated by RJ Prateek of Radio Mirchi.

In the subsequent session, celebrated filmmaker, artist, and cultural revivalist Muzaffar Ali shared his insights on the world of Urdu literature and cinema. Delving into his filmmaking journey, he offered fascinating anecdotes about the making of his iconic film Umrao Jaan. Ali highlighted his efforts to authentically portray the rich culture of Awadh through his films. He stressed that actors must deeply understand the backdrop and immerse themselves in the environment of the film. According to him, cinema reflects the future, and audiences should view the artist’s craft from a unique perspective.

Earlier in the day, the first session at Lekhak Ganj saw the launch of Dr. Alka Singh’s poetry collection, “Thoughts that April”. The session was a beautiful blend of poetry and reflections, celebrating the power of literature to inspire and transform.

The riverfront was abuzz on Saturday with the presence of thousands of young readers who were part of organized tours by various school chains in the city. Students were engrossed in storytelling sessions, films, and in books at Kitaab Gali. They also participated in the Little RJ program. Rangmanch, the cultural stage, came alive with a powerful performance by renowned Sufi singer Indira Naik. As the Gomti Book Festival approaches its final day, it continues to enchant audiences with its rich blend of books, culture, and meaningful discussions, leaving an indelible mark on Lucknow’s literary and cultural landscape.

The last day of the Book Festival will feature Paralympic medalist Simran Sharma. Simran Sharma is a visually impaired para-athlete who won a bronze medal in the Women’s 200 meters in Paris. She is also a gold medalist at the World Para Athletics Championship. During the event, she will interact with the audience. Additionally, the LekhakGanj will host a session by a business guru and bestselling author who will discuss navigating through family businesses.
