Lucknow: Principal Secretary, State Tax, M. Devaraj, emphasized the fundamental right of consumers to receive a bill when purchasing goods or availing of services. Speaking about the initiative led by the Uttar Pradesh State Tax Department, he stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister, the department is conducting a widespread campaign to create awareness among consumers about the importance of demanding and receiving authentic bills.
As part of the campaign, stickers are being placed at establishments registered under the State Tax Department to encourage consumers to demand proper bills.
Key Highlights of the Initiative:
- No Extra Tax on Proper Bills:
Devaraj clarified that receiving a proper bill does not result in any increase in the price of goods or services. On the contrary, proper bills ensure that consumers can fully benefit from guarantees or warranties. - Ease in Addressing Product Deficiencies:
If a product has any defect, possessing a proper bill makes it easier for consumers to return or exchange the item. This ensures better protection of consumer rights. - Consumer Responsibility:
The Principal Secretary urged consumers to take responsibility by demanding bills when purchasing goods or availing of services. - WhatsApp Complaint System:
To address consumer grievances, the department has launched a WhatsApp helpline at 7235001729. Consumers facing difficulties in receiving bills can register their complaints through this number, and appropriate legal action will be taken by the department. - Appeal to Service Providers and Traders:
Devaraj appealed to all service providers and traders to issue proper bills to customers without waiting for them to ask. This practice will foster transparency and trust between businesses and consumers.
