Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Department hosted a seminar at the Directorate of Fisheries, 7 Ayodhya Marg, Babuganj, Lucknow, to discuss the application process for beneficiary selection under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for the financial year 2024-25.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad,  Minister of Fisheries, Uttar Pradesh. Special guests included  Veeru Sahni,  Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Matsya Jeevi Cooperative Federation, and  Ramakant Nishad,  Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Development Corporation. The seminar also saw the esteemed presence of  K. Ravindra Naik, Principal Secretary of Fisheries;  Rajesh Prakash, Director General of Fisheries; and  N.S. Rehmani, Director of Fisheries.

Key Highlights of the Seminar:

  1. Application Process Explained:
    N.S. Rehmani, Director of Fisheries, provided a detailed explanation of the application process for fish farmers through the departmental portal. He elaborated on the step-by-step procedure to ensure a seamless application experience.
  2. Focus on Fisheries Development:
    Rajesh Prakash, Director General of Fisheries, emphasized the immense potential for fisheries development in the state. He announced the launch of various projects on the portal aimed at utilizing water resources scientifically and technically to make Uttar Pradesh a leader in fish production. He directed districts to promote the portal locally and encourage applications.
  3. Promotion of Error-Free Applications:
    K. Ravindra Naik, Principal Secretary of Fisheries, urged all districts to ensure extensive promotion of the portal and assist fish farmers in submitting error-free applications.
  4. Support for Quality Fish Seeds:
    Ramakant Nishad, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Development Corporation, highlighted the availability of quality fish seeds to enhance fish production. He encouraged fish farmers to contact the corporation for assistance.
  5. Support for Traditional Fishermen:
    Veeru Sahni, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Matsya Jeevi Cooperative Federation, advocated for spreading awareness about the scheme among primary fisheries cooperative societies. He emphasized the need to support families of traditional fishermen during restricted fishing periods by providing livelihood and nutritional assistance.
  6. Announcement of Application Timeline:
    Minister of Fisheries, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad, announced that applications under the PMMSY for 2024-25 will be invited through the portal from February 1, 2025, to February 15, 2025. He directed all districts to ensure widespread publicity to maximize participation.
  7. Orientation for Selected Beneficiaries:
    It was mandated that all selected beneficiaries undergo an orientation session before the commencement of their projects. This would ensure they are well-informed about the implementation and requirements of their initiatives.
  8. Timely Execution of Projects:
    The Principal Secretary emphasized the importance of timely execution of projects and providing continuous guidance to beneficiaries.

The seminar concluded with a collective commitment to enhance fisheries development in Uttar Pradesh and ensure the effective implementation of PMMSY projects. The event underscored the government’s dedication to supporting fish farmers and boosting the fisheries sector in the state.
