Mumbai: Some dreams quietly take root within us and remain there for years, waiting for the right story and the right moment to become reality. For filmmaker Shiboprosad Mukherjee, one such long-held dream is finally taking shape: the opportunity to work with legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty.
Having grown up watching Mithun Chakraborty on screen, Shiboprosad has long admired the actor’s remarkable body of work, from Mrigayaa, Do Anjaane and Agneepath to iconic entertainers such as Disco Dancer and Dance Dance. Mithun’s journey across Hindi and Bengali cinema, and his ability to move effortlessly across genres and generations, have remained a source of inspiration for the filmmaker.
“Everyone has certain dreams. Some find a place in our hearts when we are very young and quietly stay with us. I had one such dream—that someday I would get the opportunity to work with Mithun Chakraborty,” Shiboprosad Mukherjee said.
Over the years, the professional relationship between the two grew, along with Shiboprosad’s desire to collaborate with the veteran actor. Yet, as the filmmaker recalls, the right opportunity had to come along.
That moment arrived when Shiboprosad finally met Mithun and narrated the film’s story to him. According to the filmmaker, once the narration ended, Mithun immediately extended his hand and responded enthusiastically, saying that Shiboprosad had found exactly the right story and that it reflected his own life.
For Shiboprosad, the response meant far more than securing a professional collaboration. It brought back the emotions of the young admirer who had grown up watching the actor on screen.
“Somewhere inside me, that little boy was still sitting quietly and listening. Hearing those words from someone I had watched and admired since childhood was an incredibly emotional moment for me,” he recalled.
The collaboration, however, began taking shape even before the formal narration. Recalling an earlier conversation with Mithun during the actor’s time in the United States, Shiboprosad said he had introduced himself over the phone and sent him a voice note. After listening to it, Mithun called him back and, in his characteristic manner, expressed his willingness to work together without requiring a lengthy introduction.
The long-awaited collaboration is now set to become a reality. Mithun Chakraborty will headline a special 2027 production from Windows Production House, with filmmakers Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy coming together for the project.
The film will be among the special projects marking 25 years of Windows Production House, adding another significant chapter to the production banner’s journey. For Shiboprosad, however, the project carries an especially personal significance.
“Everything is now final. Most importantly, Dada is doing well. We just have to wait a little longer. After that, a dream I have carried for years will finally become a reality. Nandita Di, Mithun Chakraborty and I will finally be working together,” he said.
The upcoming film brings together one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated performers with a filmmaking duo known for their storytelling-driven projects. Beyond being a new professional collaboration, it represents the fulfilment of a dream nurtured over many years—and marks the first collaboration between Windows Production House and Mithun Chakraborty.
