Meerut: The 38th Convocation of Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) was held with grandeur at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Auditorium on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel. A total of 199 meritorious students were awarded medals, while 66,971 degrees were made available through DigiLocker.
During the ceremony, the Governor virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several university infrastructure projects. She also felicitated district and police administration officials from Bulandshahr, Hapur and Ghaziabad for their outstanding contribution to the HPV vaccination campaign for girls. Five Anganwadi workers received Anganwadi kits, while primary school teachers were presented with books.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Patel noted that more than 75 per cent of the medals were won by female students, calling it a testament to their talent, hard work and dedication. She said the purpose of education extends beyond earning degrees to include character building, ethical values and service to society. She urged students to actively support the campaigns for a drug-free India, environmental conservation and nation-building.
The Governor also praised the university’s initiatives, including the adoption of 50 villages, participation in the TB-Free India campaign, its NAAC A+ accreditation, national and international rankings, modern library facilities, research achievements and innovation-driven education. She emphasised the need for universities to introduce employment-oriented and skill-based courses aligned with evolving industry demands.
Chief Guest Dr Himanshu Shukla, Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad, said the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can be realised through technology, research, innovation and skill development. He described the convocation as the beginning of a new phase of responsibility and encouraged graduates to continuously update their scientific and technological knowledge.
Minister of State for Higher Education Rajni Tiwari said a degree is not merely a certificate but a commitment to serve society. She highlighted the importance of the National Education Policy, skill development, startups, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and research in shaping the future of India’s youth, while stressing the need to preserve Indian culture and protect the environment.
The university conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) on Rasilaben Kanjibhai Dungaria in recognition of her contribution to promoting Kutch’s traditional handicrafts, empowering rural women and preserving India’s folk art and craft heritage.
Presenting the university’s annual achievements, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangeeta Shukla highlighted major academic, research and innovation milestones. She announced that Kajal, an MA (Drawing and Painting) student, received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal 2026, while Mukta Bhardwaj, an LLM student, was awarded the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal. The Chaudhary Charan Singh Memorial Talent Award, sponsored by Kisan Trust, New Delhi, was presented to BSc Agriculture students Varnika Sharma and Ruchi Kumari.
The convocation was attended by MLA Ghulam Mohammad, MLC Shrichand Sharma, District Magistrate Dr V.K. Singh, Registrar Prof. Bhupendra Singh, members of the Executive Council, deans, faculty members, university officials, students, parents and other distinguished guests.
