Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma chaired a high-level review meeting at Sangam Sabhagar in Lucknow to discuss preparations and strategies for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan rankings.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed Lucknow’s previous performance in the national cleanliness survey and emphasized the need to identify both the strengths that helped the city secure the third position and the shortcomings that prevented it from achieving the top rank.
Sharma directed officials to prioritize infrastructure and renovation works in schools under the Kayakalp initiative and ensure an effective grievance redressal mechanism with better citizen feedback management. He also instructed departments to resolve sewage-related complaints promptly and remove garbage accumulation outside hospitals and large hotels without delay.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, the minister said maintaining cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the municipal corporation but a collective duty of society. He urged councillors to conduct awareness drives and cleanliness campaigns in their respective wards through mohalla committees and local community meetings.

The minister further instructed officials to ensure that no garbage heaps remain visible in any ward and stressed the need for continuous monitoring by municipal authorities.
Special cleanliness drives were also ordered for commercial areas, with directions to encourage traders and business establishments to keep dustbins on their premises. Sharma said that with coordinated efforts from citizens, civic authorities and public representatives, Lucknow can secure the number one position in the Swachh Survekshan rankings.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, additional municipal commissioners, councillors and senior officials.
