Thought-provoking theatrical performance staged at International Buddhist Research Institute in Lucknow
Lucknow: A powerful theatrical performance depicting the growing emotional disconnect and declining social sensitivity in modern society was staged at the International Buddhist Research Institute in Gomti Nagar.
The play, titled Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein, was presented by Shraddha Manav Seva Kalyan Samiti under the concept and direction of theatre artist Anupam Bisaria. Written by playwright J P Singh, the production portrayed the emotional challenges emerging within modern family structures and society’s fading human values.
Through impactful performances, the play highlighted the weakening emotional bonds within joint families, increasing indifference in interpersonal relationships and the gradual decline of compassion and empathy in society. The narrative reflected how excessive materialism and self-centred lifestyles are eroding values such as kindness, cooperation, charity and emotional support.
The play also raised concerns over the growing number of old-age homes, widow shelters and orphanages in the country, presenting them as symbols of deteriorating personal relationships and shrinking social sensitivity. The emotional struggles of elderly people compelled to spend their later years in old-age homes instead of their own families formed one of the central themes of the production.

Actor Aditya Verma impressed the audience in the lead role of Tappu, while Ashwani Makhan portrayed Jagan Lal. Other notable performances included Rajesh Mishra as Ghanshyam, Anupam Bisaria as Mahavir and Anita Verma as Uma Devi.
The production featured set design by Nadeem Ansari and Asgar Ali, while stage construction was handled by Asgar Beg, Subroto Bose and Faizan Beg. Stage management responsibilities were carried out by Vineeta Awasthi, Gautam Rai and Pranav.
The rehearsal process was guided by Ajay Kakkar, while the workshop direction was conducted under the guidance of Prabhat Kumar Bose. Costume design was managed by Rosie Dubey Mishra and lighting design was executed effectively by Devashish Mishra. Music direction and coordination were handled by Yogesh Shukla.
The theatrical presentation by Concert Theatre Lucknow received an enthusiastic response from the audience and left a lasting emotional impact on theatre lovers through its socially relevant message and strong performances.
