RCB Aim for Consecutive Final Berth After Beating Gujarat in Qualifier 1 Clash

New Delhi: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to secure a place in their second consecutive final when they take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 at Dharamshala on Tuesday.

RCB enter the high-stakes encounter after finishing the league stage at the top of the table, despite a heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final match. Both teams—RCB, Gujarat Titans and SRH—ended with 18 points, but RCB’s superior net run rate ensured they secured the No. 1 position.

Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, finished second after a dominant win over Chennai Super Kings in their last league fixture, where their bowlers dismantled the opposition for just 140 while defending a massive total of 229.

The much-anticipated clash also brings a high-profile battle between RCB’s star batter Virat Kohli and Gujarat captain Shubman Gill, with both players leading their teams from the front throughout the season.

RCB’s bowling attack will rely heavily on swing specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar, alongside Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam, to challenge Gujarat’s strong top order featuring Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. The Titans’ pace duo of Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj will, in turn, aim to test RCB’s batting line-up early.

Gujarat’s batting unit has been in excellent form, with Sai Sudharsan leading the Orange Cap race with over 600 runs, closely followed by Gill. However, their middle order has shown inconsistency, an area RCB will look to exploit.

On the other hand, RCB’s batting strength has revolved around Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar, who have all contributed crucial runs this season. However, the team will miss the firepower of Phil Salt, who returned home due to injury.

Both teams boast balanced squads, making the Qualifier 1 clash a tactical and high-pressure contest. The losing side will still get another opportunity in Qualifier 2 to reach the final.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar said finishing top of the table was a key objective achieved by the team, while Gill stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in the playoffs, calling consistency and discipline crucial for success.

With form, talent and pressure all converging, the stage is set for a blockbuster showdown in Dharamshala as RCB chase back-to-back IPL final appearances.
