77-Year-Old Woman Recovers from Critical Heart Failure After Advanced Procedure at Max Super Speciality Hospital

Lucknow: A 77-year-old woman from Lucknow has made a remarkable recovery from severe heart failure and circulatory collapse after undergoing an advanced cardiac procedure at Max Super Speciality Hospital.

The elderly patient had reportedly been suffering for nearly a month from persistent palpitations, severe breathlessness, dizziness, weakness, and episodes of low blood pressure. She had also experienced repeated fainting spells at home. A known case of hypertension with an enlarged and weakened heart, her condition had deteriorated significantly due to a sharp decline in the heart’s pumping capacity, leading to advanced heart failure.

She was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department, where specialists diagnosed her with recurrent episodes of Atrial Fibrillation — an irregular heart rhythm disorder — along with Tachy-Brady Syndrome, a condition in which the heart alternates between abnormally fast and slow beats. Doctors also found that she was in cardiogenic shock, accompanied by acute kidney injury and reduced urine output.

Further evaluation revealed that while her coronary arteries were normal, the heart’s electrical conduction system had been severely affected. She was also diagnosed with Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB), a condition that delays electrical impulses to the left side of the heart and can worsen heart failure symptoms.

A cardiology team led by Dr. Danish Hasan Kazmi performed a CRT-P (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Pacemaker) implantation, an advanced pacing therapy designed to synchronize the heart’s pumping action and improve overall cardiac function.

Following the procedure, the patient responded positively, with significant stabilization of her heart rhythm and noticeable recovery from heart failure symptoms. After intensive monitoring and supportive cardiac care, she was discharged in stable condition.

Speaking about the case, Dr. Kazmi said that advanced cardiac rhythm management procedures like CRT-P can substantially improve both survival rates and quality of life in carefully selected heart failure patients when performed at the appropriate time. He emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and timely medical intervention, particularly in elderly individuals experiencing symptoms such as breathlessness, dizziness, palpitations, or fainting episodes.

Hospital officials said the successful treatment highlights the growing capabilities of advanced cardiac care in Lucknow, supported by modern technology and multidisciplinary expertise for managing complex and critical heart conditions.
