Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak emphasized that the world today needs peace, not war, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Gautama Buddha. He was addressing a seminar titled “Threat of World War and the Relevance of Buddha” organized by the Dr. Ambedkar Mahasabha Trust at Udyan Bhawan in Lucknow as the chief guest.
Highlighting the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam rooted in Sanatan tradition, Pathak said that Indian culture teaches respect for all forms of life, including animals, birds, and nature. “In our traditions, women worship trees like Peepal and Banyan, praying for their protection. However, what is happening globally today is deeply concerning,” he remarked. He stressed that India must take a leadership role in safeguarding humanity, as the message of peace propagated by Buddha originated from this land.
During the seminar, former Minister of State and Member of Legislative Council Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal presented the keynote paper, warning that the world is on the brink of a major global conflict. He cited ongoing tensions such as the Russia-Ukraine War, the Israel-Iran Conflict, and the China-Taiwan Tensions as major flashpoints that could escalate into a wider war.
Dr. Nirmal also pointed out that the expiration of the New START Treaty has intensified the arms race between global powers like the United States, Russia, and China. He warned that even a limited nuclear conflict could have devastating consequences for humanity, climate, biodiversity, and the global economy, including disrupted supply chains, soaring oil prices, rising inflation, and potential stock market crashes.
He emphasized that only the teachings of Buddha—centered on non-violence, compassion, and harmony—can help prevent such a catastrophe. Quoting Buddha’s philosophy, he said that hostility cannot be ended by hostility, but only through friendship and goodwill.

Dr. Nirmal further stated that Narendra Modi is widely respected on the global stage and urged that India’s leadership should actively promote the message of “Buddha, not war” to ensure global peace.
The seminar also featured insights from several eminent speakers, including former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Ambedkar Social Science University, Mhow, Dr. R. S. Kuril; Information Commissioner Dilip Agnihotri; senior journalist Santosh Valmiki; Lokpal Lucknow R. R. Jaiswar; and DICCI Uttar Pradesh President Manish Verma, along with Ramchandra Patel.
The seminar was chaired by Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal and conducted by Pramod Kumar. Hundreds of participants, including scholars, social workers, and members of the trust, attended the event, reflecting widespread concern over global peace and security.
