UP Pushes Fast-Track Implementation of Pumped Storage Projects to Boost Energy Self-Reliance

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has reiterated its commitment to fast-track the implementation of Pumped Storage Power (PSP) projects as part of its broader strategy to achieve energy self-reliance and accelerate progress toward a $1 trillion economy.

A high-level review meeting chaired by Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ was held at the Invest UP office to assess the status of approved PSP projects. The minister directed officials to resolve regulatory and procedural bottlenecks within fixed timelines to ensure smooth execution of these projects.

Highlighting the importance of PSP projects, Nandi said they would significantly enhance the state’s renewable energy capacity and strengthen its power storage infrastructure, paving the way for Uttar Pradesh to become a power-surplus state.

He emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a preferred investment destination. The government is focusing on advanced technologies and strengthening ease of doing business to attract investors. Assuring full support to project developers, Nandi stressed the need for better inter-departmental coordination to address challenges swiftly.

During the meeting, the minister also instructed departments to immediately resolve discrepancies in forest and revenue land records and prepare a coordinated action plan to remove hurdles in land allocation, ensuring timely completion of PSP projects.

Representatives from leading energy companies, including Greenko Energies Pvt Ltd, JSW Energy, Avaada, Torrent Power, Adani Green Energy Ltd, THDC, ReNew Group, and others, participated in the meeting.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary (Infrastructure and Industrial Development) Alok Kumar and Invest UP CEO Vijay Kiran Anand, were also present. Officials assured developers that land-related issues are being addressed in a time-bound manner to facilitate swift project execution.
