Lucknow Gears Up for Grand 77th Republic Day Celebrations with Parade, Cultural Splendour and Stories of Social Transformation

Lucknow | The City of Nawabs is awash with patriotic fervour as Lucknow completes final preparations for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, scheduled for January 26, 2026. From tricolour-themed decorations to heightened security arrangements, the Uttar Pradesh capital is set to host a grand and inclusive celebration that blends military precision, cultural richness and powerful narratives of social empowerment.

The centrepiece of the celebrations will be the Republic Day parade at Vidhan Sabha Marg, in front of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly building. A full-dress rehearsal was successfully conducted on January 24, during which officials confirmed that all logistical, ceremonial and security preparations are firmly in place. The Vidhan Sabha complex has been beautifully adorned in tricolour hues, with laser lighting illuminating the iconic dome, creating a striking visual symbol of national pride.

Grand Parade and Tableaux Display

According to officials, the parade will feature an impressive lineup of 65 marching contingents, comprising personnel from the armed forces, paramilitary units, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, police forces and school children from across Lucknow district. NCC cadets, including those rehearsing at Lucknow University, will play a prominent role in the ceremonial march.

Adding colour and creativity to the parade will be 25 vibrant tableaux, showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, historical legacy and developmental achievements. The tableaux will reflect themes such as “Vande Mataram,” “Developed India,” and “Developed Uttar Pradesh,” highlighting the state’s journey of progress while celebrating its civilisational roots.

Cultural Performances and Special Attractions

The celebrations will also include cultural performances by teams from nine Indian states, underscoring the spirit of unity in diversity. A major attraction will be the participation of the Thunderbolt contingent, known for its high-energy and precision-driven displays. The evening programme will feature a laser light and sound show on the Vidhan Sabha dome, narrating India’s constitutional journey and freedom struggle through cutting-edge visual technology.

Administration and Security Prepared

District Magistrate Vishak G stated that all ceremonial arrangements have been completed and teams are fully prepared to deliver a disciplined and memorable parade. “Every department is working in coordination to ensure a smooth, dignified and inspiring Republic Day celebration,” the DM said.

Security has been significantly tightened across the city, particularly along key routes leading to Vidhan Sabha Marg. Traffic diversions have been implemented in several areas, and police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations to ensure public safety and uninterrupted conduct of the programme.

Social Inclusion Takes Centre Stage

This year’s celebrations carry a deeply emotional and inspirational dimension. In a heartening development linked to national social welfare initiatives, four individuals from Lucknow who successfully moved away from begging through the government’s SMILE scheme and the ‘Bhiksha se Shiksha’ campaign will attend the main Republic Day parade in New Delhi as special guests. They will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi, symbolising transformation through education, rehabilitation and empowerment.

In another powerful gesture, 30 children from Sambhal, who were once involved in begging, will perform in the marching band during the Lucknow parade. Their participation stands as a living testament to the impact of inclusive governance and social reform.

City Dressed in Tricolour

Beyond the parade grounds, Lucknow’s streets, landmarks and public spaces are glowing with tricolour decorations, reflecting widespread public enthusiasm. The Republic Day celebrations also coincide with UP Diwas programmes, being held from January 24 to 26 at venues such as Rashtra Prerna Sthal, further amplifying the festive atmosphere.

As Lucknow prepares to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India, the city promises a grand, inclusive and culturally rich Republic Day 2026—one that celebrates national unity, honours democratic values, and showcases stories of hope and transformation.

Jai Hind!
