Lucknow: In a significant breakthrough, the Lucknow Police have dismantled an auto-borne robbery gang operating in the Madiyaon police station limits. Four accused have been arrested for allegedly assaulting pedestrians, looting cash, and forcing victims to transfer money through mobile payment apps.
According to Madiyaon Police, a case was registered on December 2 based on a complaint lodged by a man named Yogendra. In his FIR, the victim reported that four unidentified men robbed him of ₹2,000 in cash and coerced him to transfer ₹28,000 via his mobile phone under threat.
During the investigation, police traced the digital transaction trail from the victim’s mobile. This led them to information obtained from a local Jan Seva Kendra operator where part of the money trail was identified. Acting on these inputs, police intensified patrolling and intercepted a suspicious auto-rickshaw. Following a swift operation, all four accused — Divanshu, Sumit Shyamr, Veeru, and Imran — were apprehended.
The police recovered ₹14,400 in cash, the auto-rickshaw used in the crime (bearing registration number UP32 QT 6758), and mobile phones from the accused. During interrogation, the gang admitted to committing another similar incident recently, wherein they forced a pedestrian to transfer ₹25,000 online and looted ₹2,000 in cash.

Legal action has been initiated under Sections 309(6), 351(2), and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66D of the IT Act. Authorities have also seized the auto-rickshaw and begun verifying the criminal background of the accused.
Police officials stated that the crackdown reflects the department’s continued efforts to curb street crimes and ensure safer public spaces in Lucknow.
