Om Namah Shivaya to Resonate Along Varanasi’s Temple Corridor Under Yogi Government’s New Initiative

Varanasi: In a major step toward enhancing the spiritual ambience of the ancient city, the Yogi Adityanath government has begun installing a specialised audio broadcasting system along Varanasi’s temple corridor—from Kal Bhairav Chauraha to Maidagin, through the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, up to Godowlia and Dashashwamedh Ghat. The system will continuously play ‘Om’, ‘Om Namah Shivaya’, devotional chants, and narratives related to Kashi’s heritage every day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Tourists visiting the temple route will now be able to listen to religious stories, historical insights, and cultural information about Kashi through the audio system powered via Akashvani. The initiative aims to offer devotees a deeply spiritual environment while simultaneously keeping Kashi’s ancient traditions alive through modern technology.

Continuous Chanting to Enrich Pilgrim Experience

According to officials, the audio setup has already been activated on the stretch from Kal Bhairav Temple towards the main temple route, where a cycle of three chants of ‘Om’ and one chant of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ is broadcast regularly. The system also includes curated audio capsules describing Kashi’s mythology, temples, and cultural significance.

This initiative, they said, will not only help visitors connect spiritually but will also narrate the timeless stories of Kashi—a city believed to rest on Lord Shiva’s trident and home to the revered Kashi Vishwanath, one of the Dwadash Jyotirlingas.

Part of Larger Plan to Beautify and Elevate Public Experience

The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) is executing the project under the state government’s “Action Plan for Kashi and Sarnath.”
VDA Vice-Chairman Purn Bora said that 18 key locations across Varanasi have been identified for beautification and experience enhancement. The installation of the audio system along the temple circuit is one of the major components of this plan.

VDA’s Additional Secretary Dr. Gudakesh Sharma confirmed that the audio system along the Kal Bhairav route has been completed. The expanded system across the corridor is expected to significantly enhance the devotional atmosphere for residents and visitors.

Bringing Ancient Traditions Alive Through Modern Technology

Officials say the primary objectives of the initiative include:

  • Providing tourists and devotees accurate information about Kashi’s key temples and religious sites

  • Helping visitors understand the city’s spiritual, cultural, and historical importance

  • Creating an immersive spiritual environment along the temple route

  • Preserving the city’s ancient traditions through technology-driven communication

  • Giving the temple corridor a distinctive devotional identity through continuous chanting

With this new audio experience, the temple pathways of Kashi will now resonate with sacred sounds throughout the day—offering an atmosphere of devotion, peace, and cultural richness that reflects the city’s timeless heritage.
