VC K.P. Singh Highlights Major Academic and Institutional Achievements at MJPRU’s 23rd Convocation

Bareilly: At the 23rd Convocation Ceremony of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), held under the chairmanship of  Governor and Chancellor  Anandiben Patel at the Atal Auditorium, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh presented an extensive overview of the university’s significant strides in academics, research, innovation, and infrastructure during the 2024–25 academic session.

In his address, Prof. Singh announced that MJPRU achieved remarkable milestones, securing an ‘A’ grade with a score of 3.6 from NAAC and earning Category–1 status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The university received a ₹100 crore grant under the PM-USHA scheme to enhance academic strength and research quality, along with an additional ₹10 crore allocation dedicated to infrastructure development. The Rohilkhand Incubation Foundation—established as a Section 8 company—also received ₹10 crore to expand innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Prof. Singh informed that the university adopted the Samarth Portal, initiating several digital processes with more to be added soon. As MJPRU celebrates its Golden Jubilee Year, the newly constructed Golden Jubilee Gate was inaugurated by the Governor, marking 50 years since the university’s establishment.

He highlighted several international collaborations and MoUs forged with globally reputed institutions, including the University of Massachusetts (USA), Sumy State University (Ukraine), Western University (Nepal), Volcani Institute (Israel), National Formosa University (Taiwan), Mississippi Valley State University (USA), Philomath University (Nigeria), and John Carroll University (USA). A MoU with the University of Warsaw (Poland) is also underway. In the latest NIRF rankings, MJPRU secured an impressive position within the 51–100 band among state universities and 101–125 in the pharmacy category.

Significantly, MJPRU became the first residential university in Uttar Pradesh to adopt blockchain-based storage for students’ degrees, mark sheets, and academic documents, launched by the Governor. Prof. Singh noted that the blockchain system ensures tamper-proof records accessible anytime worldwide, greatly easing authentication for employment and international education.

Highlighting the university’s research progress, the Vice-Chancellor announced that 110 PhDs were awarded across 44 subjects in 2024–25. Admissions for international research scholars have commenced, and 15 new PhD supervisors were approved from MJPRU, affiliated colleges, and partner institutions. As many as 1,748 PhD theses have been uploaded to the Shodhganga platform to enhance academic transparency and accessibility.

Prof. Singh added that several administrative, academic, and innovation-driven reforms are underway to ensure qualitative improvement, elevate research output, and help the university scale new heights in coming years.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the achievements of MJPRU athletes. In the 2024–25 sports season, the university’s players excelled in multiple national competitions:

  • All India Inter-University Athletics (IIS University, Odisha): 3 silver, 1 bronze
  • North East Zone Inter-University Judo (GNDU, Amritsar): 1 silver, 1 bronze
  • All India Inter-University Judo (GNDU, Amritsar): 2 silver
  • All India Inter-University Wrestling (Guru Kashi University, Punjab): 1 bronze
  • All India Inter-University Best Physique (Shri Shankaracharya University of Sanskrit): 1 bronze
  • Prof. Singh said these achievements have brought pride to the university and reflected its commitment to encouraging sports and holistic development.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by reaffirming MJPRU’s dedication to academic excellence, innovative reforms, and global collaborations that would help the university achieve greater milestones in the years ahead.
