New Delhi: A delegation from the Lucknow Chikankari Handicrafts Association met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who also serves as the patron of the association, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at South Block, New Delhi to discuss urgent matters affecting the traditional Chikankari sector.
The delegation requested a reduction in GST rates on Lucknow Chikankari garments, highlighting the need to provide relief to the handicraft industry and the lakhs of artisans who depend on this heritage craft for their livelihood.
Leading the delegation were President Sanjeev Agarwal, General Secretary Shalu Tandon, and Senior Vice Presidents Dilip Khairajani and Vinod Punjabi.

During the meeting, both ministers acknowledged the importance of the Chikankari sector and assured the delegation that the matter would be addressed promptly to support the artisans and sustain this centuries-old craft.
The delegation expressed optimism that the government’s intervention would help preserve Lucknow’s iconic Chikankari industry while boosting the income and welfare of its artisans.
