India’s 6G Push Gains Momentum, IIT Kanpur at Forefront

Kanpur: At a high-level review meeting of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA), chaired by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Telecom Secretary Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Prof. Rohit Budhiraja of IIT Kanpur highlighted India’s rising role in global 6G standardisation.

Presenting “Global 6G Standardisation,” Prof. Budhiraja, Vice Chair of B6GA, outlined India’s growing influence in forums like 3GPP and ITU. He stressed the need for 6G to support terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, AI integration, and post-quantum security.

“AI and 6G are deeply interconnected,” he said. “While AI will make 6G smarter and more secure, 6G will power next-gen AI applications.”

He also spotlighted IIT Kanpur’s active role in TTDF-funded 6G research, Indo-Finnish collaborations, and contributions to global white papers on AI and resilient 6G systems.

With joint efforts from academia, startups, and industry, B6GA is driving India’s vision to lead globally in 6G by 2030.
