Rampur: A young man from Rampur was arrested on Thursday for posting a religiously sensitive remark on social media that allegedly hurt communal sentiments. Acting swiftly on a complaint received via X (formerly Twitter), the local police initiated an investigation that led to the arrest.
According to Rampur police officials, a controversial comment made on X was flagged by users, prompting the district’s social media monitoring cell to investigate the digital trail of the accused. The investigation led to the Instagram account of the individual behind the comment, identified as Farman, son of Shabbir, a resident of village Ateria ka Majhra.
Based on the digital evidence collected, Kotwali police station officials detained Farman and registered a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to incitement and hurting religious sentiments. He was then remanded to judicial custody.
The police emphasized that any activity on social media that threatens communal harmony will be dealt with strictly and warned users to maintain decorum and respect while expressing opinions online.
This incident underscores the growing vigilance of law enforcement agencies toward online behavior, especially in cases where public sentiments and religious sensitivities are involved
