Mother of Raja Raghuvanshi Demands Death Penalty for Sonam

Lucknow: In a shocking development in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, the mother of the deceased businessman Raja Raghuvanshi has made startling allegations regarding the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who had been missing for 17 days following the murder in Shillong, Meghalaya, was recently arrested. While the family is devastated by Raja’s death, his mother Uma Raghuvanshi’s grief is mixed with anger and demand for justice.

Uma Raghuvanshi claimed that Raja had no plans to travel to Shillong and that it was Sonam who forcibly took him on the honeymoon trip. “Sonam herself booked the tickets for the honeymoon without any prior discussion with us,” Uma revealed. She added that Raja had told her he was not ready to travel and wanted to consult the family before making any plans, but Sonam had already arranged everything. “When I asked Raja what to do, he said Sonam had already booked the tickets, so I told him to go,” she said.

Uma also expressed her shock on seeing Sonam after her arrest, saying there were no marks or injuries on her body. She said, “If someone had harmed or kidnapped her, there would have been some sign. I feel restless and often sit in front of my son’s photo at night, asking him to find whoever wronged him and bring them to justice.” She emotionally added that if Sonam is proven guilty, she should be awarded the death penalty. “Sonam used to speak so sweetly that no one ever suspected her. But if she is found guilty, she deserves the highest punishment,” she said.

The Honeymoon Trip and Disappearance

Raja and Sonam got married on May 11, 2025, in Indore. They set out on their honeymoon on May 20, traveling from Indore to Bengaluru, then to Guwahati. After visiting the Kamakhya temple, they proceeded to Shillong on May 23. Initially, the family kept in contact with them, but communication suddenly stopped. Raja’s elder brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, initially assumed network issues, but worry escalated when their phones remained unreachable from May 24 onwards.

After failed attempts to establish contact, Sonam’s brother Govind and Raja’s brother Vipin traveled to Shillong and joined the search efforts.

Recovery of Raja’s Body and Sonam’s Arrest

On June 2, Raja’s body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. Govind reportedly sent an acquaintance from Ghazipur to Shillong, who then managed to speak to Sonam over the phone. However, it remains unclear how Sonam reached Ghazipur. Police are expected to bring Sonam back to Indore soon for further investigation.

Raja’s family continues to seek answers, while the investigation moves forward into this tragic and mysterious case. The demand for justice from Uma Raghuvanshi remains firm as the case draws intense public and media attention.
