Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has successfully incorporated solar energy into over 33,000 Jal Jeevan Mission projects, marking a significant move towards environmental sustainability. Under this initiative, 33,229 groundwater schemes now operate on solar power, out of a total of 40,951 schemes across the state. This transition to solar energy is expected to save the state approximately Rs 1 lakh crore over the lifetime of the projects.
The installation of around 900 MW of solar panels will not only reduce dependency on conventional power supply but also cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 13 lakh metric tons annually. Over the next 30 years, the state is projected to earn 390 lakh carbon credits, underscoring its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s focus on renewable energy through the Jal Jeevan Mission has been widely recognized as a national model. The central government has praised the initiative as a best practice, encouraging other states to follow Uttar Pradesh’s lead in adopting solar solutions for public services. This approach not only boosts the state’s environmental credentials but also supports long-term financial and operational sustainability.
