Lucknow: Under the leadership and guidance of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Rural Development Department is running many ambitious public welfare and employment-oriented schemes for the multifaceted development of villages with full dynamism.
Women representatives have been selected for the purpose of smooth and systematic completion of MNREGA works in the villages, very meaningful and positive steps have been taken for their employment and the employment of women mates has increased the pace of MNREGA works.
According to the information received from the Rural Development Department, more than 12 thousand women mates have been employed so far in the current financial year. In the sequence of instructions given regarding the selection of women mates, more than 35 thousand women mates were employed in the state in 2023-24 in comparison to 57,705 gram panchayats. In the current financial year 2024-25, 12,255 women mates have been employed so far.
Before the employment of women mates, arrangements have been made by the department for their training. Under the MNREGA scheme, women mates are employed for supervision at MNREGA sites having 20 or more workers. The selected women mates have a 3-day training program.
Training is given to women mates at the development block level. There is a provision for payment of mate’s remuneration at the prescribed rates as per the Public Works Department’s (PWD). Payment is made as per the standard given in the technical estimate of the scheme.
Women mates have been included as semi-skilled workers in the estimate of the project. Instructions have been given by the Deputy Chief Minister that the remuneration of MNREGA workers and mates should be paid on time as per the rules.
Rural Development Commissioner G.S. Priyadarshi has given detailed guidelines to all the district officers regarding the employment and training of women mates in MNREGA works. In the instructions issued, he has said that there should be no laxity at any level in the employment of women mates in MNREGA works.
