Priyanshu Rajawat sets his sight high

Lucknow: India’s second seed Priyanshu Rajawat started his campaign in Syed Modi India International HSBC World Tour Super 300 Badminton Championship and entered the pre-quarterfinals with an easy win. In the first round of women’s singles, India’s third seed Aakarshi Kashyap was upset and was out of the race to become the champion.

In the first round of men’s singles held at Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy, Priyanshu Rajawat, who had reached the semi-finals in the last edition, defeated compatriot Karthikeya Gulshan Kumar 21-13, 21-12. In the first round of men’s doubles, second seed Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar defeated India’s Sanjay SD and Sai Pawan K. 21-10, 21-8.

In women’s singles, Thailand’s L. Chaiwan caused an upset by defeating India’s third seed Aakarshi Kashyap 21-8, 21-12. China’s Wu Luo Yu defeated India’s Israni Barua 21-16, 21-12 and India’s sixth seed R. Shri Santosh Ramraj defeated compatriot Keyura Mopati 21-10, 16-21, 21-13.

In women’s doubles, Thailand’s third seed Benyapa Amsard and N.Amsard defeated India’s Unnati Hooda and Riddhi Kaur Toor 21-17, 21-7, India’s Gayatri Rawat and Mansa Rawat defeated India’s Apoorva Gehlawat and Sakshi Gehlawat 21-17, 21-15, Chinese Taipei’s Chen Su Yu and Yi Yen H defeated India’s Samridhi Singh and Tanisha Singh 21-12, 21-11.

Second seed Trisha Jali and Gayatri Gopichand P. got a walkover in the first round. In men’s singles, China’s Wang Zheng Jing defeated India’s Sanith Dayanand 21-23, 21-17, 23-21 and Sri Lanka’s Viren N. defeated India’s Siddharth Pratap Singh 21-14, 21-18.

India’s Ayush Shetty gave a strong performance

In the first round of men’s singles, India’s eighth seed Ayush Shetty defeated India’s Raghu Mariswamy 21-18, 15-21, 21-16, India’s third seed Kiran George defeated India’s Alap Mishra 21-12, 23-21, Malaysia’s Justin Hoh defeated India’s Mithun Manjunath 21-18, 17-21, 21-17 and Ireland’s sixth seed Nhat Nguyen defeated India’s Chirag Sen 21-14, 21-15 to enter the last 16.

In the first round of women’s doubles, India’s Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi defeated India’s Aparna Balan and Gauri Krishna TR 21-11, 21-14, fourth seeded India’s Rituparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda defeated India’s Rituparna Das and Pranika Holkar 21-10, 21-16 to enter the last 16.

In the first round of men’s doubles, India’s Ishan Bhatnagar and Shankar Prasad Udayakumar defeated Thailand’s Neodong and Songopan Se Ma 21-17, 22-24, 21-18 and India’s Prakash Raj and Gaus Sheikh defeated India’s Ayush Makhija and Sujoy Tamboli 25-23, 21-16. In mixed doubles, second seeded Indian pair of Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Adya V. defeated Ganesh Vithal G and Shivani Santosh Singh of India 21-18, 19-21, 21-15.
