Memorandum Submitted to President Over Fuel Shortage, Power Cuts and Smart Meters in Gonda

Gonda: A delegation led by District President Arshad Hussain submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India to the District Magistrate of Gonda, raising several pressing public issues including shortage of fuel, LPG supply, and power outages.

The memorandum highlighted the acute shortage of diesel and petrol across the district and parts of the state, stating that farmers, commuters, and the general public are facing significant hardships. It also pointed out the non-availability of LPG cylinders during the ongoing wedding season, causing inconvenience to households.

The delegation expressed strong concern over frequent and unannounced electricity cuts amid the ongoing heatwave, which has triggered widespread public resentment. They demanded immediate steps to streamline power supply and ensure uninterrupted electricity.

Another major issue raised was the absence of operational procurement centres for crops like wheat and maize in the district. Farmers, the memorandum stated, are being forced to sell their produce at throwaway prices through middlemen. The leaders urged the administration to immediately set up procurement centres to safeguard farmers’ interests.

The memorandum also opposed the installation of prepaid smart meters without public consent, alleging that residents are facing difficulties and instances of illegal charges by electricity department personnel. The delegation demanded that smart meters be removed with immediate effect.

Several prominent leaders and representatives were present during the submission, including former minister Yogesh Pratap Singh, former MLA Baijnath Dubey, former MLA Nandita Shukla, and political leader Sanjay Vidyarthi, among others. Hundreds of party workers and local residents also participated in the demonstration, lending support to the demands raised.

The District Magistrate assured the delegation that the concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
