Lucknow Academy of Pediatrics Organizes Walkathon on World Obesity Day to Promote Healthier Lifestyles

Lucknow: In observance of World Obesity Day on 4th March, the Lucknow Academy of Pediatrics organized a Walkathon on Sunday morning 2nd March, at Lohia Park, Gomtinagar, to raise awareness about childhood obesity and promote healthier lifestyles. This year’s theme, “Transforming Systems, Healthier Lives,” highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to prevent and manage obesity in children.

Over 50 pediatricians, parents, and children participated in the walkathon, spreading the message of this year’s slogan, “Move towards a healthier you.” The event emphasized the importance of regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, and early intervention in tackling childhood obesity.

Speaking at the event, Dr Shalini Bhasin, President of the Lucknow Academy of Pediatrics, said, “Childhood obesity is a growing concern, now in India too, leading to long-term health risks such as diabetes, hypertension, and emotional distress. As pediatricians, we must work together with families, schools, and policymakers to create an environment that supports healthier choices for our children.”

Dr Lokesh Sharma, Pediatric Endocrinologist informed that the walkathon aimed to encourage parents, schools, and communities to take proactive steps in ensuring children engage in active play, reduce screen time, and develop healthy eating habits. Dr Ac Chawla, urged all Pediatricians to monitor children for weight & height.

Dr Utkarsh Bansal, Secretary of the academy added that The Lucknow Academy of Pediatrics urges all stakeholders to support policies that create healthier environments for children and prevent the long-term consequences of obesity.
