Gonda: Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Degree College hosted a special awareness programme on “drug de-addiction” for students of the B.Sc. Agriculture programme, organised by the Faculty of Agriculture at the Science Campus, under the guidance of officiating Principal Prof. Jitendra Singh. The programme was aimed primarily at making young students aware of the harmful effects of substance abuse, while encouraging them to actively contribute toward building a healthier, drug-free society.
The session began with the chief guest, Prof. Arvind Kumar Sharma, offering floral tributes and lighting a lamp before the image of Maa Saraswati. In his address, Prof. Sharma reminded students that as the country’s future, young people carry a responsibility to stay away from social evils such as drug abuse and instead direct their energies toward nation-building and the growth of the agricultural sector.
Special guest Dr. Santosh Kumar Srivastava spoke to students about the importance of both mental and physical well-being, urging them to carry this anti-drug campaign beyond the campus and into rural communities, where awareness on the issue is often lacking.
The programme’s success was credited in large part to its convenor, Dr. Rekha Sharma, who heads the Faculty of Agriculture and played a central role in organising the event. Assistant Professor Dr. Dharmendra Singh handled the stage proceedings, ensuring the programme ran smoothly through skilled anchoring and precise coordination. Dr. Karunesh Dubey delivered the vote of thanks at the close of the event.
Several faculty members extended their support to ensure the programme’s smooth execution, including Dr. Ghanshyam Dwivedi, Dr. Vinay Pandey, Dr. Smita Singh, Dr. Karunesh Kumar Dubey, and Mansi Pandey.
As part of the event, all students in attendance were administered a pledge committing themselves to a life free of drug use. The programme saw large-scale participation from students of the Faculty of Agriculture, who collectively resolved to work toward building a drug-free society.
