Gonda: The Gonda Congress celebrated the martyrdom day of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and socialist leader Acharya Narendra Dev at the Congress Bhawan on Saturday.
The programme was organised under the leadership of City Congress President Shahid Ali Qureshi. Party leaders and workers paid floral tributes to the three leaders by garlanding their portraits, followed by a discussion on their contributions to the country.
Addressing the gathering, Qureshi said the three leaders represented important values in India’s political and social history. He said Sardar Patel taught the country the importance of unity, Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the nation’s unity, while Acharya Narendra Dev championed socialism and equality.
Referring to the current political climate, Qureshi alleged that forces promoting hatred and division were gaining ground. He said Congress workers would continue to oppose such forces and work towards building a strong, united and prosperous India.
Those present included district convenor Dr Syed Abdul Mujeeb, City Congress spokesperson Vinay Prakash Tripathi, city organisation in-charge Sukai Bharti, Nirmala Devi, student leader Shivam Giri, City Backward Classes President Mohammad Rizwan, social media in-charge Shaukat Ali alias Mali Baba, Anish Nana, John Sir, Zakir Ali and Janki Devi, along with a large number of party workers and office-bearers.
