Mumbai: Singer Nishant Mukta is on a mission to give Bhojpuri music a fresh identity by blending its regional roots with contemporary pop sounds. The singer, who participated in Rusk Media and Alright TV’s IPop Star Vol 2, believes that Bhojpuri Pop has the potential to reach audiences across the country and even internationally. With songs like UP Wali Larki and Bombay Ki Rani gaining attention on social media, Nishant is keen to take the genre to a much larger platform.
Talking about what inspired him to explore Bhojpuri Pop, Nishant shares, “Around six years ago, someone asked me if I listened to Bhojpuri songs. I said no because I felt that a lot of them were vulgar and did not come across as respectful. A friend then asked me, ‘You are also a singer, so why don’t you fix this problem?’ I said I would, and that is how my journey began. I wanted to create a different sound for Bhojpuri music.”
For Nishant, the vision extends beyond individual success. He hopes to see more artists experiment with the genre and help establish it as a recognised musical movement. “Pop means popular, and Bhojpuri means Bhojpuri. I don’t want to be the only person doing Bhojpuri Pop. I want 200 artists to explore this genre and create competition. That is how an entire industry can emerge, with people across the world discovering this music. That is my vision,” he says.
His tracks have also received encouraging responses from listeners, particularly through social media reels. Reflecting on the audience’s love, he adds, “It makes me extremely happy when I see people making reels on my songs or listening to them in autos, e-rickshaws, cars, clubs and buses. It motivates me to create more music and take this sound to an even bigger level.”

His stint on IPop Star Vol 2, presented by Rusk Media and Alright TV, gave him another opportunity to showcase his musical identity. Despite his unexpected elimination in week three after forgetting the lyrics, Nishant remains focused on his larger ambitions.
“I have so much more to show the world. The songs I performed on the show were just a small glimpse of what I can do. I have many experiments planned, including songs that explore emotions beyond the fun side of my music,” he concludes.
For Nishant, the journey is far from over, and his larger goal remains to put Bhojpuri Pop on the global musical map.
