Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has tightened its grip on doctors indulging in unauthorized private practice. Seventeen government doctors have been found violating service rules by engaging in private practice despite receiving Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA).
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio, expressed strong displeasure over the issue and directed the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, to initiate departmental action against the erring doctors.
Government-employed doctors are prohibited from private practice and are compensated with substantial monthly NPA to uphold this regulation. However, an investigation revealed that several doctors, despite receiving NPA, were conducting private consultations.
According to Deputy CM Pathak, ten doctors from Balrampur, six from Hathras, and one from Kushinagar have been found guilty of unauthorized private practice. Orders for departmental proceedings against these doctors have been issued.
