Sonbhadra: In a major robbery incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, armed miscreants allegedly looted gold, silver ornaments and cash worth nearly ₹60 lakh from a jewellery trader in the Babhani police station area on Saturday evening. The robbers reportedly opened fire in the air and attacked the trader with a knife when he resisted, leaving him injured.
According to police officials, the victim, Kuldhir Kumar Seth, a resident of Chapki village and a jewellery trader, was returning from Chhattisgarh with a stock of ornaments late in the evening. He was travelling on a motorcycle when the incident occurred near the Shishtola forest area close to the Sonbhadra–Chhattisgarh border.
Babhani Station House Officer D.P. Yadav said that three armed assailants intercepted the trader and forcibly stopped him. The accused allegedly snatched his bag containing approximately 300 grams of gold jewellery, 8 kilograms of silver ornaments, ₹40,000 in cash, and the account ledgers of his business.
When the trader attempted to resist, the robbers reportedly fired shots in the air to intimidate him and attacked him with a knife, causing injuries. After carrying out the robbery, two of the accused fled into the nearby forest, while another escaped towards Jignahwa village on a motorcycle.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections related to robbery, assault and firing and launched an intensive search operation to trace the accused. The injured trader was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Senior police officials have constituted three separate teams to investigate the case and ensure the swift arrest of those involved. Authorities have assured that the accused will be apprehended at the earliest and brought to justice.
