When Will Barsana’s Laddoo Mar Holi Be Celebrated?

This year, the famous Laddoo Mar Holi will be celebrated on March 7, 2025, at the Bansa Shri Radha Rani Temple in Barsana. On this day, an abundance of laddoos is showered upon devotees, and those who get hit by them consider it a sign of good fortune.

How is Laddoo Mar Holi Played?

During this unique celebration, priests and devotees from Nandgaon are welcomed in Barsana and showered with hundreds of kilograms of laddoos. Pilgrims from far and wide gather to witness this grand event, which creates an atmosphere filled with devotion and joy. The temple premises become a hub of spiritual enthusiasm, and receiving a laddoo is seen as a divine blessing.

The Mythological Story Behind Laddoo Mar Holi

This extraordinary tradition is rooted in an ancient legend from the Dwapar Yuga. According to the story, when Lord Krishna and Radha were on earth, Radha’s father, Vrishabhanu Ji, invited the people of Nandgaon to play Holi in Barsana. Accepting the invitation, Nand Baba sent a priest to Barsana as a representative. Upon his arrival, the priest was warmly welcomed and offered laddoos as a mark of respect. However, when the playful Gopis smeared him with Holi colors, the priest, having no colors to retaliate with, picked up laddoos from the platter and started throwing them at the Gopis. Since then, this tradition has been followed, evolving into the spectacular Laddoo Mar Holi that we see today.
