Gonda: In a significant success under Operation Cyber Kavach, the Cyber Help Desk of Itiyathok Police Station recovered ₹40,589 lost in an online fraud and returned the amount to the victim, bringing relief and a smile back to his face.
Acting on the directions of Gonda Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal to ensure swift action against cybercrime, the recovery was carried out under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Ajit Kumar Rajak. The Itiyathok Cyber Help Desk, with support from the district Cyber Cell, coordinated with the concerned bank and intermediary agencies to facilitate the refund.
According to police, the complainant, Akbar Ali, son of Majid and a resident of Sikli Purwa, Vijay Garhwa village under Itiyathok police station limits, reported that cyber fraudsters had made unauthorized purchases using his credit card. Treating the complaint with urgency, the Cyber Help Desk initiated an investigation and gathered transaction-related information from the concerned bank through email.
The police team subsequently coordinated with the bank’s nodal officers and intermediary agencies, leading to the successful recovery of the entire defrauded amount of ₹40,589, which was credited back to the victim’s bank account.
Expressing gratitude after receiving his money, Akbar Ali thanked the Gonda Police and the Cyber Help Desk team for their prompt action and support.
The Gonda Police reiterated the importance of reporting cyber fraud immediately through the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930. Officials cautioned that delays in reporting often allow fraudsters to withdraw or transfer stolen funds, significantly reducing the chances of recovery.
The police also urged citizens to remain vigilant while conducting online transactions. They advised people never to share confidential information such as bank account details, OTPs, biometric data, PAN or Aadhaar information with unknown callers or through suspicious links. Citizens have also been advised to avoid clicking on unverified links, use secure websites for online shopping, maintain strong passwords, protect personal information on social media, keep devices updated with security measures, and promptly report incidents of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, or online harassment to both the police and the concerned platform or organisation.
The successful recovery highlights the effectiveness of coordinated cybercrime response mechanisms and reinforces the importance of timely reporting in preventing financial losses from online fraud.
