Lucknow: On the occasion of Republic Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the International Year of Cooperation 2025 at his official residence, making Uttar Pradesh the first state in India to launch this global initiative. As part of the launch, the ‘Run for Cooperation’ marathon was flagged off by the Chief Minister from his residence at 5 Kalidas Marg in Lucknow.
The marathon aimed to promote the values of cooperation and unity, aligning with the theme of the International Year of Cooperation. Addressing the closing ceremony of the event, State Minister for Cooperation (Independent Charge) J.P.S. Rathore emphasized the importance of cooperation in fostering individual prosperity and community development.
Promoting Cooperative Values and Employment:
Speaking at the event, Rathore credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revitalizing the cooperative movement in India and highlighted the significant contributions made under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah through the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation. He pointed out that while corporate sectors cannot provide employment to everyone, cooperative initiatives can create job opportunities at the village level, benefiting unemployed youth across rural areas.
“Cooperation is the foundation of individual prosperity. Cooperative societies have the capability to address current challenges effectively. Together, we are building a better world,” said Rathore. He further elaborated on the department’s initiatives to increase farmers’ incomes and alleviate poverty. He noted that through cooperative platforms like PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies), significant contributions are being made in areas such as agriculture, banking, sugarcane development, handloom, dairy, fisheries, and construction, which are playing a vital role in the development of the state and the nation.
Recognition of Excellence:
During the award ceremony, Shri Rathore felicitated winners of the 5-kilometer marathon. In the men’s category, Balram secured first place, followed by Indrajit in second place and Islam Ali in third. In the women’s category, Ujala claimed first place, with Dimple Singh and Pratiksha Yadav finishing second and third, respectively. Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates of appreciation for their outstanding performance.
Presence of Eminent Personalities:
The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Principal Secretary for Cooperation Saurabh Babu, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Anil Kumar Singh, Chairman of UP State Cooperative Bank Jitendra Bahadur Singh, Managing Director R.K. Kulshrestha, NABARD’s Chief General Manager, former Minister and MLC Dr. Mahendra Singh, Managing Director of U.P. Co-operative Rural Development Bank V.K. Singh, MLC Avnish Singh Patel, and other prominent cooperative leaders. Senior officials from the Department of Cooperation and related departments were also in attendance.
