Balrampur: The Balrampur district administration, in coordination with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, organised a free assistive devices distribution camp under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to promote independence, accessibility and inclusive development.
The camp was held at the Balrampur Block Development premises, where 108 eligible beneficiaries received modern assistive devices following technical assessments and a transparent selection process. The initiative aims to improve mobility, communication, educational access and everyday independence among persons with disabilities.
A total of 25 tricycles and 12 wheelchairs were distributed to beneficiaries with mobility-related disabilities. Another 36 beneficiaries with hearing impairments received digital hearing aids to facilitate communication and participation in daily activities.
To support visually impaired beneficiaries, 17 smart canes were provided for safer and more independent mobility, while eight Braille kits were distributed to assist learning and educational development. Additionally, 10 special kits for children with intellectual disabilities were handed over to their parents to support developmental activities and daily living.
The district administration is also working to extend social security benefits to eligible persons with disabilities, particularly those living in rural and remote areas. Regular identification drives and health assessments are being conducted at the block level to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are not excluded because of geographical distance, lack of information or procedural difficulties.

As part of these efforts, eligible individuals are being linked to the Unique Disability ID (UDID) system, which provides standardised disability identification for accessing government services. The administration is also facilitating disability pensions, financial assistance for surgery and accident insurance benefits.
Officials are monitoring the quality, durability and standardisation of the distributed equipment. Beneficiaries and their families were also given practical guidance on proper usage, maintenance and addressing technical problems to ensure the devices remain useful over the long term.
The initiative is intended to help persons with disabilities participate more actively in social, educational and economic activities. Improved mobility and access to assistive technology can also help children and young people pursue education, develop vocational skills and move towards greater self-reliance, while reducing caregiving challenges for their families.
Through the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, the district administration aims to strengthen the delivery of welfare schemes and promote a more accessible and inclusive environment for persons with disabilities across Balrampur.
