UP Congress Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighter Ashfaqulla Khan on Birth Anniversary

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) observed the birth anniversary of freedom fighter and revolutionary Ashfaqulla Khan at its headquarters, paying tribute to his courage, sacrifice and contribution to India’s independence movement.

UPCC president Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’, along with party office-bearers and workers, offered floral tributes to his portrait during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Mishra said Ashfaqulla Khan’s courage and sacrifice in the struggle against British rule would continue to inspire generations. She described his life as an enduring example of patriotism, national unity and communal harmony.

She also highlighted the significance of the Kakori Train Action, whose centenary was being commemorated. The revolutionary operation took place on August 9, 1925, and 26 revolutionaries were implicated in the case. Ashfaqulla Khan, Ram Prasad Bismil and Thakur Roshan Singh, all associated with the freedom movement, were subsequently sentenced to death.

Mishra said Ashfaqulla Khan’s determination and call to stand against British rule remained relevant even today, making him a role model for the youth.

Those present included All India Congress Committee secretary and co-in-charge Abdul Hannan, MP Tanuj Punia, senior vice-president Devendra Nishad, treasurer Shiv Pandey and Backward Classes Department chairman Manoj Yadav, along with other senior leaders and party workers.
