District Committees on Environment, Ganga Conservation, Afforestation and Wetlands Hold Review Meeting in Bareilly

Bareilly: A joint review meeting of the District Environment Committee, District Ganga Committee, District Afforestation Committee and District Wetland Committee was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Avinash Singh.

During the meeting, officials reviewed preparations for the Afforestation Campaign 2026 and were informed that departmental plantation targets had been revised on June 17. The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to submit site-wise details of pit excavation and plant requisitions to the office of the Divisional Forest Officer within two days in accordance with the revised targets.

Officials were also instructed to ensure the establishment of various thematic forests under the plantation drive, including Maharshi Charak Van, Samras Van, Samriddhi Van, Urja Van and Kapi Van. Departments such as Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Public Works and Urban Local Bodies were directed to coordinate closely for successful implementation.

The District Magistrate emphasized the importance of the Van Mahotsav celebrations scheduled from July 1 to July 7 and instructed all departments to organize plantation and awareness programmes within their respective jurisdictions in the presence of public representatives. He further directed that geo-tagging of saplings be completed at the time of plantation to ensure effective monitoring.

Reviewing environmental compliance in the healthcare sector, the District Magistrate instructed the Chief Medical Officer to conduct surprise inspections of pathology laboratories, clinics, healthcare facilities and unauthorized medical establishments operating without valid agreements. Joint inspection teams comprising Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Municipal officials, Pollution Control Board representatives and police personnel were directed to take legal action wherever violations are found and ensure regulatory compliance.

To strengthen urban sanitation, the Municipal Health Officer and Executive Officers of all urban local bodies were instructed to personally monitor morning and evening sanitation drives and take action against any irregularities.

The District Magistrate also ordered a joint inspection of Superior Industries located in CB Ganj by officials from the Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Board, Forest Department, Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration and Labour Department.

Addressing concerns related to noise pollution, the Superintendent of Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Officer were directed to launch a special enforcement campaign against motorcycles fitted with modified silencers and to intensify public awareness efforts regarding noise pollution control.

During the District Ganga Committee review, the Executive Engineer of the Flood Control Department was directed to prepare a comprehensive restoration plan for the Nakatiya River in coordination with relevant departments so that the proposal could be submitted to the National Mission for Clean Ganga in New Delhi.

The Deputy Director of Agriculture was instructed to promote natural farming through block-level training programmes and awareness workshops. The Executive Engineer of the Flood Division was also directed to prepare a rejuvenation and restoration plan for the Aril River and coordinate with the Additional District Magistrate (Administration) regarding excavation and conservation activities.

Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation was instructed to install iron safety grills on the Chaubari Bridge over the Ramganga River to enhance public safety.

The meeting was attended by the Divisional Forest Officer, Project Director and In-charge Deputy Commissioner (Labour and Employment), Environmental Engineer of the Municipal Corporation, Deputy Municipal Health Officer, Executive Engineer of the Flood Division, District Horticulture Officer, District Panchayati Raj Officer, Assistant Commissioner (Cooperation), District Inspector of Schools, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Executive Officers of municipal bodies and other district-level officials.
