Lucknow: A delegation of traders from Gomti Nagar and Telibagh markets met Rajnath Singh to raise serious concerns over notices issued by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) under the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973.
The 11-member delegation, led by Sanjay Gupta, submitted a memorandum at the Defence Minister’s residence, highlighting the challenges faced by hundreds of traders in Gomti Nagar’s Vivek Khand and Telibagh market areas.
According to the traders, the LDA has issued notices demanding building maps and warning of sealing action against establishments that, in many cases, have been operating for decades. They pointed out that several buildings are 30 to 50 years old, making it unreasonable to now demand original maps or initiate punitive action.
Sanjay Gupta argued that authorities should have enforced regulations at the time of construction rather than targeting traders years later, many of whom have invested their life savings into these properties and rely on them for their livelihood. He termed the current notices as unjust and detrimental to small businesses.

The delegation also urged the government to declare major commercial hubs such as Gomti Nagar Vivek Khand, Telibagh, Kapurthala, Patrakarpuram, and Sitapur Road as “market streets,” recognizing their long-standing commercial usage. Additionally, they demanded regularisation of buildings older than 15 years and amendments to zonal and master plans to formally include these areas as commercial zones.
Rajnath Singh listened to the concerns carefully and assured the delegation that appropriate steps would be taken to find a fair and practical solution.
The delegation included representatives from Gomti Nagar Vivek Khand Adarsh Vyapar Mandal—Hemant Kukreja, Nitin Kakaria, Harsh Arora, Gangaram Raheja, Jyoti Kakaria—and from Telibagh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal—Alok Goyal, Rajesh Chawla, Chandrashekhar Yadav, Paramjeet Singh, and Amarjeet Singh.
