Ayodhya Municipal Corporation Passes ₹736 Crore Budget for 2026–27; Santosh Singh Elected Deputy Chairperson

Ayodhya: The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation board on Sunday unanimously approved a budget of ₹736 crore for the financial year 2026–27 during a meeting held at Gandhi Auditorium in the Divisional Commissioner’s premises.

The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Mayor Mahant Girish Pati Tripathi and witnessed the presence of MLA Ved Prakash Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar, among others.

Prior to the budget approval, six new members were elected to the executive committee, replacing outgoing members including Anuj Das, Sultan Ansari, Rajesh Gaur, Harishchandra Agrahari, Abhinav Pandey and Garima Maurya.

Santosh Singh was unanimously elected as the new Deputy Chairperson, replacing Rajesh Gaur. His election was welcomed with applause by members of the House.

The newly elected executive committee members include Santosh Singh, Ramshankar Nishad, Gayatri Devi, Manisha Yadav, along with independent members Vikas Kumar and Abha Pandey. The proposals for their appointment were moved by Leader of the House Brijendra Singh and supported by Suryakumar Tiwari Surya.

Additionally, Anuj Das was elected as Chief Whip, while Anup Kumar and Deep Kumar were chosen as Deputy Whips.

The House later passed the budget by voice vote. The proposed budget outlay stood at ₹735.66 crore, with an estimated total income of ₹798.81 crore, including an opening balance of ₹121.55 crore.

During the session, councillor Anuj Das moved the proposal to pass the budget unanimously, which was supported by Leader of Opposition Vishal Pal and other members.

Several issues were raised during the discussion. Former Deputy Chairperson Jaynaryan Singh Rinku proposed naming Kalyan Mandapam on Raebareli Road after martyr Captain Shashank Tiwari, which received unanimous support. A separate proposal was also raised to commemorate martyr Rajkumar Yadav through a memorial, to which the Mayor expressed agreement.

Concerns over sanitation were also highlighted, with councillor Vinay Jaiswal questioning the functioning of the door-to-door waste collection agency, a point supported by Ankit Tiwari and others. The issue of allocating a fixed councillor fund was also raised prominently.

The budget discussion saw participation from several councillors including Ram Bhavan Yadav, Anil Singh, Chandan Singh, Suman, Archana, Akhilesh Pandey, Rashid Saleem, and Mukesh Kumar, among others.

The meeting was also attended by MP representative Hamid Jafar Misham, Additional Municipal Commissioners Dr. Nagendra Nath, Bharat Bhargava and Sumit Kumar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Guruprasad Pandey, Chief Engineer (Civil) Puneet Ojha, Jal Kal General Manager Saurabh Srivastava, and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Rammani Shukla.

The proceedings were conducted by Chief Tax Assessment Officer Gajendra Kumar.
