Mumbai: The Indian real estate sector is no longer just about land and buildings; it is rapidly evolving into a mature, transparent, and global asset class. This transformation was the focal point of Accelerate 2026 held in Mumbai, where over 750 industry experts, investors, and policymakers gathered to map out the sector’s future.
The summit highlighted a significant shift from traditional “family funding” to institutional investment through modern financial vehicles like REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts), SM REITs, and Private Equity. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani noted that with India’s urbanization expected to hit nearly 50% by 2047, the nature of real estate demand and development is set for a massive overhaul.
Industry leaders credited regulatory reforms like RERA, GST, and RBI policies for building a foundation of trust. Prashant Sharma emphasized that these measures have strengthened investor confidence, while Vikas Jain highlighted that domestic and foreign investor sentiment is currently at an all-time high.
The summit identified Branded Residences, Hospitality Assets, Green Development, and Data Centres as the primary engines for future growth. Driven by rising incomes, rapid urbanization, and a surge in global capital, India’s real estate sector is clearly on a path of unprecedented expansion.
