Lucknow: A thoughtfully curated and creatively enriching painting workshop themed on Palash (Tesu) concluded successfully at the Barabanki branch of Lucknow Public School and Colleges under the Aesthetic and Cultural Development Programme (2025–26). Titled “State Flower of Uttar Pradesh: Palash – A Confluence of Nature and Culture in Regional Identity,” the initiative aimed to connect artistic expression with environmental awareness while deepening students’ understanding of nature and cultural heritage.
The workshop was organized by the Art Department of Lucknow Public School and Colleges in collaboration with Floroscence Art Gallery. It was conducted under the direction of Neha Singh and guided by Principal Dr. Ritu Singh. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and parents, making it a lively and inclusive community experience.
Celebrating Palash: Nature’s Flame and Cultural Symbol
The central theme revolved around Palash, popularly known as the “Flame of the Forest,” admired for its vibrant orange-red blossoms. The tree holds immense ecological, cultural, and historical significance in India, closely associated with the spring season, festivals like Holi, and traditional practices. Through the workshop, participants were sensitized to the importance of conserving indigenous trees and maintaining ecological balance.
Engaging Sessions and Creative Exploration
The program began with an introductory session highlighting the artistic, cultural, and environmental importance of Palash. Visual presentations showcased the tree’s natural beauty and symbolic meanings, while interactive discussions encouraged participants to reflect on their relationship with nature and the urgent need for biodiversity conservation in the face of rapid urbanization.
The highlight of the workshop was a hands-on art session, where students enthusiastically engaged in painting and sketching inspired by Palash and its surroundings. Using watercolors, poster colors, and mixed media, participants translated their observations and imagination into vivid artworks. The presence of parents added warmth to the experience, with many joining their children in the creative process.
Art as a Medium of Awareness
Beyond artistic skill-building, the workshop emphasized observation, sensitivity, and environmental consciousness. Students were encouraged to closely observe shapes, textures, and colors in nature and incorporate them into their artwork, fostering both creativity and ecological understanding.
Neha Singh remarked, “Art has the power to deeply connect individuals with their surroundings. Through this workshop, we aim to teach children to appreciate the beauty of nature and understand its cultural relevance. Palash is not just a flower—it is a symbol of our regional identity.”

Principal Dr. Ritu Singh expressed her happiness over the program’s success, stating, “We are delighted to see such active participation from students and parents. Workshops like these play a vital role in holistic education, integrating art, culture, and environmental awareness. Learning beyond textbooks and nurturing a sense of responsibility towards nature is essential for children.”

The event was graced by notable personalities including Bhupendra Kumar Asthana (Curator and Art Writer, Floroscence Art Gallery), Rajesh Kumar (Artist and Head of Art Department, Lucknow Public School), Manisha Srivastava, and painter Uttam Verma, along with a large number of students and parents.
